Omogbolahan Lawal

A seasoned security and development practitioner, Oba Lawal possesses a deep understanding of the political economy of development, particularly within low- and middle-income economies.

Drawing on extensive experience in the public sector, he has developed a strong capacity to identify complex governance challenges, analyse socio-economic dynamics and drive strategic transformational change. His work reflects a keen appreciation of the dynamic relationship between people and cities, and how these interactions influence governance systems, urban development, and infrastructure planning.

Since his coronation in 2020, Oba Lawal has advanced a forward-looking development agenda themed #LEGIT- Let’s Grow Iruland Together, anchored on pillars including Tourism and culture, Security, Technology, Environment, Health and Poverty Alleviation.

Through the HRM Abisogun II Foundation, he has empowered women and youth through vocational and entrepreneurial programmes while supporting community infrastructure such as the Oniru Primary Healthcare Centre, Oniru Vocational Centre, HRM Oba Gbolahan Lawal Fire Station, and the Oniru Central
Mosque.

In recognition of his distinguished service to the nation, he was conferred with the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR in 2023.
